A $1,500 scholarship has been endowed by friends, family and colleagues in memory of Peter Nelson Affleck (1951-2006), B.S.F.1975, for a graduate student in Forestry with preference for a student pursuing studies in forest policy.
Known across Canada as a leader and advocate for forestry, Peter enjoyed a career that saw him as a student employed in a sawmill in Port Alberni and in the woods. As a Professional Forester, he worked for MacMillan Bloedel and then as an independent consultant before turning to representing the industry through advocacy groups. He served as Vice-President of the Interior Lumber Manufacturers Association and then as Vice-President of Forestry with the Council of Forest Industries of B.C.
The scholarship is made on the recommendation of the UBC Faculty of Forestry in consultation with the UBC Faculty of Graduate Studies.
